Duties of editor-in-chief
The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Algerian Chemical Society conducts an initial assessment of each submitted manuscript, employing appropriate methods to scrutinize the originality of the content. Throughout the evaluation process, the editor-in-chief strictly focuses on the intellectual substance, maintaining impartiality regardless of factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. Manuscripts passing this assessment are then assigned to a section editor, who facilitates a double-blind peer review by two independent reviewers. Each reviewer provides recommendations regarding the publication, potential revisions, or rejection of the manuscript. The review process is anticipated to conclude within a maximum of six weeks, with possible extensions due to review delays. Following the reviews, the section editor puts forth suggestions for acceptance, revision, or rejection, and the final decision is ultimately made by the Editor-in-Chief. The decision-making process incorporates insights from the Section Editor, volunteer reviewers, and, if necessary, consultation with the Journal's Editorial Board. Authors can generally expect a decision within 2 to 3 months. Importantly, the Editor-in-Chief ensures the confidentiality of information pertaining to submitted manuscripts.
Duties of Authors
When submitting a manuscript to the Journal of the Algerian Chemical Society, the submitting author(s) are required to affirm the originality of their work and confirm that it is not plagiarized, either in part or in its entirety. Additionally, they must ensure that the submitted article has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; any exceptions to this should be clearly communicated in the Comments to the Editor. Proper citation practices must be observed, giving due credit to the work of others. Authors are also expected to adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines outlined in the Author Guidelines of the Journal of the Algerian Chemical Society. Lastly, submitting author(s) bear the responsibility of confirming that all copyrighted material included in the article has obtained the necessary permissions for publication, and any material for which the author does not hold copyright must not be reproduced without proper authorization. This commitment to originality, proper attribution, and adherence to publication standards contributes to maintaining the integrity of scholarly work within the journal.
Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers for the Journal of the Algerian Chemical Society are expected to evaluate manuscripts solely based on their content, without any consideration for factors such as ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship, religious belief, or political philosophy of the authors. It is imperative that reviewers maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information pertaining to submitted manuscripts. In the event that reviewers become aware of copyright infringement or plagiarism on the author's part, it is their duty to promptly report such concerns to the Editor-in-Chief.
Reviewers are also entrusted with the responsibility of keeping all unpublished manuscripts and related materials confidential. The sharing of manuscripts with others can only occur with explicit permission from the Editor-in-Chief. If a reviewer feels unqualified to assess the research presented in a manuscript or anticipates challenges in conducting a prompt review, it is essential for them to notify the Editor-in-Chief and gracefully excuse themselves from the review process.
Reviewers are expected to adhere to specified time frames for completing their reviews. In instances where additional time is necessary, reviewers are encouraged to communicate promptly with the section editor regarding any potential delays. It is understood that reviewers may decline to assess a manuscript for any reason, and such decisions are respected within the peer-review process. This commitment to ethical and timely reviewing practices ensures the integrity and reliability of the scholarly evaluation process within the journal.
